Treasures

Last weekend I had the pleasure of accompanying a wonderful guy to a party celebrating the opening of an exhibit at the Kimbell Art Museum.  Butchers, Dragons, Gods & Skeletons is a gorgeous feast for the eyes.  Filmmaker Philip Haas created five film installations inspired by works in the Kimbell's permanent collection.  Each is beautiful and intriguing.  I highly recommend going to check it out if you are anywhere near the vicinity of the Kimbell!

A day or two beforehand, however, I received (from aforementioned wonderful guy) two treasures relating to the exhibit.  If you know me, you know that I love art, and I love books.  These were the best of both worlds: 2 books, inscribed to yours truly, about art!  Swoon!  Here is a photo I took of the catalogue's title page, signed by Philip Haas (the artist), A.S. Byatt (author of the catalogue), and Malcolm Warner (Deputy Director of the Kimbell)!

The other book (also signed by the author) is A.S. Byatt's The Matisse Stories.  I was flabbergasted.  So sweet!  So thoughtful!  So awesome!  Comment with an amazing, unexpected gift you've received!!!

  1. Treehouse, I simply loved this post! I am going to the Kimbell in two weeks with an old friend who is an artist, and it was so wonderful to read how much you liked the new exhibit. Now I am super excited about my plans! And then I read your last sentence which made me smile, pause and really think. A gift I treasured because it was such a huge surprise was an airline ticket about four years ago. My favorite brother sent it to me so I could fly to his place in LA that weekend to celebrate my birthday with him! It was so extravagant and so thoughtful...

  2. What a lovely post! I loved both of the graphics you included. I noticed JH aka Lil was described as wonderful. Hmmmmm! It is so nice that he relishes many your passions. Unexpected gifts? I have a few in mind but let me ponder a bit longer for I have been the recipient of many. It was also nice to have a blog response from Vicki who also relates to your passions.

  3. A.S.Byatt? Are you serious? If you haven't read Possession, you must march out and by it immediately. Immediately. Love, love, love it!

Treasured gifts? That's hard to say...I'm given toward the figurative today, so I'll have to shift gears for a moment and get back to you!

  4. Vicki: Aww! Awesome answer. :) Yeah, the exhibit seems really daring for a museum like the Kimbell (I had a guy ask me yesterday, "Is that the one with all the old paintings?") but I think it works. Beautifully.

  5. Auntie: I am serious! I will pick up a copy as soon as I have finished one of my current reads. Thank you for the recommendation!

  6. Well I finally made it yesterday to the Kimbell and OMG!!!! The new exhibit is spectacular; I rank it up near the top of my favorites list. I enjoyed the films about the butchers and Apollo the best.

And I couldn't resist posting about it, too!
